We recently hosted an AMA with Paradise Tycoon, on 17 March at 11 AM UTC. So here we are up with the AMA transcript, if you missed the live session, this post will be a saver & a feeder of knowledge for you.

Please can you introduce yourself and tell us about your background and work experience in the Crypto field?

Hello all! I’m Timo, Co-Founder and COO in a team of seasoned games industry veterans in Finland that have together designed, developed and published top 10 downloaded mobile games and worked with some of the biggest mobile games publishers. Last year after careful market research we made a strategic decision to start deloping Play and Earn games and now we’re announcing Paradise Tycoon. Very happy to be here, and glad to see so many online!

I’m Harri, CEO and also a Co-Founder along with Timo. I’ve been working on games for almost two decades now and it’s great to be a part of our talented team and also excited about the enthusiasm of the whole blockchain community.

Let’s talk in depth about the project.
Can you tell us more about Paradise Tycoon and what was the inspiration behind it?

Timo | Empires:

Happy to! Paradise Tycoon is a beautiful MMO world where players can gather resources, farm, build and craft items for their own use or to trade with others. Players can buy land and hire workers to make their life easier, or sell them as NFTs. In the meantime, they will be earning real money with MOANI token in a friendly and social metaverse. Paradise Tycoon is a Free to Play and Earn game which can be described as a unique hybrid between life simulation, like the ultra popular Animal Crossing, and Tycoon gameplay elements, such as seen in classic PC title The Settlers. Combine these with the best familiar game mechanics, very polished Low Poly 3D graphics, and a sustainable Play and Earn economy, and you have Paradise Tycoon.

So, what was the inspiration behind making this project and how is it different from the Games already in the market?
What innovative solutions are Paradise Tycoon bringing to the GameFi market that will differentiate the game from its competitors?

Harri Karppinen:

Our approach to combine gameplay elements from the two genres has not yet been done in blockchain games, and as far as we know, not in mainstream games either. The tycoon genre is best fit for Play and Earn model with huge uplift from blockchain technology, while metaverse features creates a whole new set of opportunities for an MMO game.

While there have been some farming themed games, we have yet to see Tropical Paradise themed games in Blockchain, even though the theme is proven quite popular in free-to-play games. Also the look & feel of the actual gameplay will have the same production quality as any succesful mainstream game, something we have experience from as a team.

And one more thing I want to mention. The game economy is balanced so that it will not crash, and we have a long term development roadmap that keeps bringing exciting new features and expansions for years to come. Whether you are an active player or just hodler with diamond hands, we will create plenty of different incentives for you to stay on board.

Massively Multiplayer Online game, basically a game that you can play online with a lot of other people

Regarding gameplay, can you please tell us more about the game and its inbuilt features that will cater both traditional as well as crypto gamers?

Timo | Empires:

Sure. In Paradise Tycoon, players will inhabit a deserted island, they will gather resources, build housing and other buildings, farm crops, trade with other players and exchange for $MOANI coins to buy land and workers to do the job for them. Players can craft items, improve and customize housing or socialize with their friends by inviting them to visit their paradise island. The game is designed so that it’s fun and rewarding to play, even without the token, however the token and play and earn model brings a huge uplift to a game. We believe this type of tycoon / builder game is a perfect fit for play and earn.

Are there any special requirements to play Paradise Tycoon?

Workers come with different skills and abilities!

We don’t apply any other requirements than a mainstream game would. :)

Part of our mission is to introduce blockchain gaming to a new non crypto native audience, which means we need to make the game easy to access and to on-board.

The Ui and mechanics looks clean to me

Harri Karppinen:

To do so, the game will be available on as many platforms as possible, and does not require players to purchase NFTs or even to connect a wallet before they wish to interact with the token. Sure, NFTs will give the players a head start, and by owning a land you are immediately able to explore the metaverse but you can get started without tokens or NFTs and still have a bit of fun in Paradise Tycoon.

Believe me this path will lead to a larger number of userbase

Unlike many of the crypto games, That started as play to earn

But became Burn money to play games later

Lets get some insight into your token, $MOANI
How does it all get incorporated into the Game ecosystem?

Timo | Empires:

Good question. The cornerstone of a healthy ingame economy is to balance inflow and outflow of the tokens. To do this, we need to have enough meaningful and fun ways to spend the tokens ingame! The token can be used in-game to buy consumables or different items from vendor, to hire workers or rent land or to trade with other players for resources that can be used for building or crafting (continuing…)

So Paradise Tycoon will have plenty of reasons for the player to use the earned or traded tokens. In addition to in-game use, the tokens can also be staked for APY or with NFTs to level up workers. The same token is also used for governance to vote at Town Hall on things that matter in Paradise Tycoon metaverse.

What are the key milestones on your roadmap? Any short/long term technical milestones that you want to talk about or bring some attention to?

Harri Karppinen:

Good question, I’ll go through the roadmap on a high level and post it as a pic for easy checking too

So here’s our high level roadmap

So basically we move from the “ground up” meaning we first develop the island players will arrive at the beginning of the game with the coreloop mechanics like gathering resources, crafting and building. Then we develop Port Ohana where players can meet other players.

Finally Paradise Tycoon will grow to a full metaverse where players can roam freely.

We are currently working on a testnet version and coreloop game mechanics based on an earlier prototype. Our development team builds new versions for WebGL and Windows every day and the art team is currently busy creating environment and land assets.

We will publish our first progress update post on our medium shortly and plan to make it a weekly thing — so make sure you keep an eye on our telegram group where we will announce it

Earning in the game is important, but with me that having fun while earning is also important. To what extent does your focus on the entertaining aspects of the game?
What measures are in place to help make the game suitable for everyone, including non-crypto people?”

Timo | Empires:

Thanks for the question! I agree with you 100%. So far we have mainly seen blockchain games that rely on the Play 2 earn element, and that is understandable. However, as things evolve the P2E alone is not enough to sustain long term projects. We have so called ‘games first’ approach, which means Paradise Tycoon is foremost a great mainstream quality game experience, a game people would play even without the Play and Earn element (continuing…)

That said, the Play and Earn will definitely create a huge uplfit for the game. Like Harri mentioned before, easy on-boarding is one of our key targets. It is the only way to reach new audience outside of crypto natives. To achieve this, players will not need NFTs or even to connect wallet to start playing. However, once they do earn some Tokens or wish to start exploring the metaverse — we will give them the possibility to do so, and guide them through out the process.

Talking about the lands that exists on “ParadiseTycoon”, what does it take to own a piece of land on “ParadiseTycoon”? Also, when lands are owned by users, how can the land owners generate revenue from their lands and what are the benefits associated with owning lands?

Harri Karppinen:

Thanks for the great question! Lands are NFTs, which comes in different size and rank. The size is quite self-explanatory, the bigger the land the more you can build, farm and collect resources. The rank on the otherhand determines how rare resources players will find on their land, and what they can farm.

So owning a small piece of high ranked land might become more valuable than a huge island. Although, who wouldn’t want to own a personal paradise island! :D

The resources players, or their workers, collect can be traded or sold for Tokens, which is the most simple way to benefit from owning a land. However, players can also rent the land to other players if you not actively playing. Having a piece of land in a populated and growing metaverse, will eventually bring other benefits as well!

In Paradise Tycoon players can Build & expand lands as well as participate in the “Harvest Festival”. Can you tell us more about the Harvest Festival? What are the conditions for players to take part in the Festival? And what rewards can players get from this Harvest Festival?

Timo | Empires:

That’s a good question. Seems you’ve really done your research too! The harvest festival is a fun community engaging competition where players gather specific crops and materials to the festival. Participants will be rewarded based on their share of the total amount gathered. To be successful players need to manage their workers, make sure their tools are intact, react quickly to competition rules and manage logistics! All the players are eligible to participate!

Great question!! We definitely believe Paradise Tycoon will surprise everyone in a positive way! While the market is competitive, and the user amounts have increased fast, it’s still small compared to mainstream gaming. We believe we can get a good market share by bringing our expertise in data driven games development process, game design & economy, user acquisition and production quality into the blockchain game market!
